ASME B16.5 flat face flange is one of the many different flanges made in different material grades and under different standards. The flat face flanges are used for different purpose such as closing a pipeline, welding with another flange and to connecting two pipes together. The flat flange has flat faces to allow for maximum contact with the other component that is being connected with or via the flange in a piping application.
The ASME B16.5 flat face flange can either have bolt holes in it for connection with bolts and nuts or be welded together with er component. There are different pressure classes of these flanges. They range from 150 to 2500 in pressure classes. The ANSI 150 flat face flange is one of the low pressure class flanges.
